Someone on an IRC channel today showed off a PDF full of apparently illegal things he had done in his past and claims about his mental state.

Because this is America in 2017. We lent the airlines billions of dollars to help them stay in business after September 11th, most of which has never been paid back, and this is how they treat paying customers now.

Yeah people are still total assholes to disabled people. It’s just a fact. Ableism runs so deep in or society and nobody cares.

I use closed captioning at home always. I have an issue with my brain that makes it almost impossible to hear/understand one person speaking if there is any sort of background noise. I can’t separate sounds. For instance, I cannot understand a server at a restaurant over other people ordering or someone else speaking…

As nice as it would be to believe this; he doesn’t seem to have said he couldn’t, rather that he wouldn’t because it would bother people.

That’s exactly what happens. The interpreter is usually off to the side of the stage and signs. It’s no different than having the subtitles above the stage at the opera.

This is dumb. If you don’t have personal CC devices, just turn on the captioning. Sure, someone might get annoyed, but people without disabilities just need to learn that the world doesn’t revolve around them.  

This is covered under section 508 of the ADA.

I work for a small theatre chain and even we supply personal closed caption devices for the hearing impaired that does not disturb other patrons in the slightest. Surprised to see other chains do not have the same.

Ditto. They’re clearly more empathetic and accepting of others despite their differences, for starters.

I think a few other people have explained the obvious answer to that already. Also, the article states they jumped to protect her from the “threat” of the authorities who tried to take her. Sounds like they were doing a hell of a lot better of a job than her own biological family did.
