That’s true of most girls from Utah.
That’s true of most girls from Utah.
Am I the only one that stars every one of these, and makes sure to open it on my laptop, phone, and tablet so it gets all 3 clicks?
No, those things aren’t bad for the school. They’re benefits to the school.
What’s your counter? I recognize that we’re talking about slightly ephemeral stuff, but still. UCLA is probably more famous, but Berkeley is more selective and, at least when I was in college (not at either) it had the distinctly more elevated academic reputation. In terms of competitiveness to get into graduate…
There’s a bigger issue here of which this is only an example: the purpose of Academe.
Not what I said. Note my careful hedging, which I’m sincere about: “College kids wanting to play sports is great ... [there’s no benefit to] institutionalizing it at anything close to this level”.
The fact that, across the country, millions of people give a fuck about college sports beyond the level of fuck that is given about, say, a high school football game in Not-Texas, is a cancer in our society.
I unlocked my car manually yesterday even though I have the remote fob.

This. I’ve opened some of the links in the article and comments but haven’t read them yet. And maybe I won’t bother. I have a feeling I’d end up not giving a flying rat’s ass. We’ve all got problems, some people are good at writing about them, some aren’t. And life goes on no matter what.
These sad sacks haven’t got the guts to murder anything except the English language.
Deadspin’s or Tom’s? Like 90% of Tom’s writing is just 1 sentence paragraphs about good bears.

I mean, the nanny’s parents sure as shit aren’t…
This would have been written much faster if he had put his penis down.
No, confessional writing done by women tends to be more direct and honest. It has its own tiresome cliches (inflation of the banal, sentimental, purple language), but it’s a different kind of bad/boring. This article is correct in its assessment.
I don’t see it often, but when I do see the word ‘obscurantist’ I always think of it as being somewhat a self-defeating word.
Quiet down loser
Counterpoint: all personal essays suck. Except The Things They Carried, which was as much quasi-fiction memoir as it was a personal account.
I do not believe that this is a uniquely male thing. As far as I can tell, this is a new-school “journalism” thing, and I’ve started to read, and then stopped reading just as many articles from female authors as male authors. (Or at least I think they were, because sometimes I don’t go back and double check who wrote…
