Because, and I’m guessing here, LOTS more Americans have either been to France or, at the very least, place it on a cultural pedestal. How many people do you see waltzing around with keychains in the shape of the Hagia Sophia? Now compare that to the Eiffel Tower trinkets that you see all the damn place and tell me

it’s not about race/religion/ethnicity — it’s about closeness and familiarity. you know this is true, you’re obstinately refusing to accept it, for some reason.

if this is honestly how you feel and not some weird attempt at moral superiority, then surely you’re in the upper 1% of empathetic people on this planet.

which part? it’s 100 percent true.

its almost certainly biological. it’s the same reason you care more about tragedies in your family than you do in a stranger’s family. there’s nothing at all wrong with that.

these people are looking for things to be outraged about because it makes them feel superior.

Jesus, really? What’s wrong with people caring more about things that are closer to them, whether actually geographically, or ontologically? I’ve never been to Tunisia, I don’t know any Tunisians, it’s culturally dissimilar. I’ve lived in France, I’ve been to Belgium, we share a more common history.

SO FUCKING WHAT?!?

Well, where the fuck was Kubiak last week when I was lazerbeaming footballs all over the beach? Coulda had me for a song.

Most cars are technically “wants.” There are bicycles and buses and all kinds of transportation options, even in the suburbs.

One of my closest friends traded in a new truck he just bought 6 months ago because of a phantom noise only he could hear.

I may actually keep the Volvo and fix those things too. The Tacoma isn’t a direct replacement, per se. I’ve wanted a truck for years, so I’m buying one, and it will take the place of the Volvo in my daily life. But my point was that, and perhaps I’m not a true Jalop, that not all of us get a thrill from wrenching on

can you still get the first-gen Moto X? Best phone I’ve ever had. It was perfect.

Hence the “replacing it with a Tacoma.” I’m not driving the Volvo anywhere.

the hell is a dishwasher?

Currently doing exact opposite. Right outside my window is a pretty cool 1995 (or ‘96?) Volvo 850T. Engine is great, everything else, not so much. Brakes are gone — not just the pads, needs 4 rotors, prob master cylinder too. Makes a hideous burning smell when driving. Weird knocks when turning. Will not put another

i don’t know for certain, but i’ve read that if you can somehow prove the value of the car, and have it insured for that value, a credit union will often consider a loan like that.

You live but once. That’s it. That’s all. Do you like cars? Probably, you’re on Jalopnik. I’d hate to live my whole life compromising on the things I truly enjoy out of some puritanical sense of fiscal responsibility. You know what’s worth a car payment? Getting into a car that makes you smile each and every day.

depends on where you live. i live in SF and i have two cars. no problems whatsoever, but it’s rather neighborhood specific. i don’t take BART often, but when I do, it’s always easy peasy. though, my god, it’s loud.

Buy a house for $500,000 — HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
