So you have no problem with women being mandated to also sign up for the draft like men do, right? And you would serve if called?

Sorry, I wasn’t making any such assumption...just trying to indicate that the old dynamic worked, and we don’t know how to make the new dynamic work yet. I think it can work, but it’s just not clear to me how yet.

Most of the commenters here have NO fucking idea what they are talking about.

yeah, it’s not like they know more than a bunch of people commenting on a blog or anything.

We should care what they think because it directly impacts the “service” they provide.

Limiting gifted women writers to the requirement that their leads be women all the time is exactly the sort of thing that will perpetuate the “well, sure, she’s a good writer, *for a woman*” mentality that is sadly all too present in many mediums.

I think a male protagonist written by a woman of her obvious talent

I actually find some value in the saying your freedom of speech ends when you “yell fire in a crowded theatre” (ironically, coined in a Supreme Court case where I do NOT agree with the outcome, and freedom of speech WAS curtailed). When your freedom of speech puts people in actual physical danger. I don’t mean hurts

I sympathize with your position in some ways, and in no way am I accusing you have any of this, but...

I’m not gonna be popular with this opinion, (but what the hell, I’m back in the greys after loosing my first burner password) I don’t like her that much. Like, great, interesting plots... Just her prose is sooooo heavy handed.

I think the investigation would be more into if he’s said worse or how often he makes these kinds of statements. They’re not used to punish controversial or problematic speech (though in theory they could be), but prevent Trump-style demagoguery, where someone makes increasingly crazy and vilifying statements about a

As a Brit I should be pissed at your comment but damn hell if I dont agree with it. (F’N funny though).

It still blows my mind that comments like Mr. Fury’s would warrant an investigation, even if charges were never filed. I guessed I’ve become so accustomed to religious reactionaries saying far, far worse things that his statements sound fairly tame by comparison.

I’ve heard similar stories about other European countries. There’s plenty of problems with America, but near-universal freedom of speech, even for shitty thoughts like this asshole’s, is something I’m glad we have.

The short answer is yes. I’m also not a legal expert but I do live in the UK, and there are laws against hate and inciting speech. The laws as I understand them are really vague, and they exist as a legal means of stopping more extreme and violent kinds of speech. Investigations are way more common than prosecutions,

It’s like they don’t even have the 1st Amendment over there.

I won’t even start to pretend to be an expert on English law, but as far as I am aware, yes. England doesn’t have nearly as strong of freedom of speech provisions as we do in the United States for stuff like this.

Legit question - can you be charged with a crime in Great Britain for what he said??

So you’re basically saying that he’s a human being with problems and not a mythological deity of some sort? Huh...

Your friend is right . Democrats are annoying as hell. Listen to them and read their comments. Grating. Arrogant. Snotty. That said I’m voting for Hillary because we need a sane leader with balls. The current POTUS and that Sanders thing have no balls....and the GOP is entirely insane. Clinton is the only responsible

It wasn’t a “homemade” clock. It was Radio Shack clock he took apart and placed the guts inside a pencil case. The only reason he did it was for attention. Unfortunately he got the wrong kind of attention.
