I love The Abyss. My issue is that the theatrical release eliminated so much that the ending just felt like they ran out of film.

I personally feel it was a great way of playing with audience expectations. Bioluminescent, intelligent sea creature kingdom was my favorite part of what I feel is a pretty strong movie.

I'm sorry but list cannot be anywhere complete unless we see both Nichele Nichols and Zoe Zadana doing a fan dance.

"I say this as a women who without fail gets UTIs from uncircumcised penises"

Some uncut men don't pull back and clean.

No, our education system - and, probably, we ourselves - is way, way stupider, and panders more to the lowest common denominator, than it used to be. Welcome to my life, teaching first year university students (at a university that is NOT a safety school) who don't know things they should have mastered in, yes, grade

I sort of hate when people cite GLAAD as "definitive" on trans terms, because GLAAD is not so friendly to trans people, and doesn't even have an invisible T in the acronym. But, I'm at a loss for a better resource on trans terms from an actual trans organization - anyone got one?

He could have saved himself a crap ton of work by starting with a motorcycle tire, which could have been used whole (through the thickness) and just cut to shape.

Thank you! I think people are taking this to the extreme. It's just a theme for a young girl's birthday party. I doubt she intended to offend anyone with her idea of a fun costume party. If we're going to get this riled up over something that was clearly not intended to be offensive, we should just stop dressing up

Didn't the VC do this during the Vietnam War?

Huma was also born in Michigan, so I guess that means I'm just surprised she putting up with this crap. ;P

Played by Kirstie Alley in the inevitable made-for-Lifetime movie?

And she already knows the location and capital of every state.

One piece of wisdom that applies to this I derived from the EXCELLENT book An Abundance Of Katherines, by John Green: this girl's a PRODIGY, not a GENIUS. A prodigy learns, a genius creates. Sure, the little girl has an amazing capacity for learning, and that is definitely something worth celebrating, but we shouldn't

I wonder about that too. It would be difficult to be so smart, yet so young. Smart is not the same as mature. Until you mentioned it, I wouldn't have even thought about how the pressure to accomplish Great Things would complicate matters. It's too bad that your brother feels the way he does, it sounds like he is

She is super cute, but I worry about her. My younger brother is/was one of those Doogie Howswer-smart kids (took college classes in 7th grade), and he's still smart, of course, and he's an amazing special ed teacher in the Bronx. But he's eaten up with guilt over the fact that everyone always told him he was going to

That's some Bergman shit right there.

Jezebel!!!!! OMG!!!!! Thank you SO MUCH for featuring my project!!! I cannot believe my fifth grade face is being featured on one of my favorite sites! Thanks for getting my message across correctly! I'm so happy I can't stand it! :)

I wasn't present for my senior year of high school due to major familial bullshit, but my friends still wanted to make sure I was in there somewhere since we'd been together since kindergarten. The yearbook boy who'd had a crush on me since we were both fetuses was convinced to sneak me into the "Senior Babies"

So good. She might not be getting the same attention she got when she was in a hot tub in her underwear, but she makes amazing albums. One of the best songwriters today.
