If you look at it from a pure game mechanics perspective I suppose you might have a point but FFXIV is so much more than that, parts of it are straight out love letters to previous entries. I haven’t played the game in an expansion or two but I respect it as possibly the best MMO on the market currently.

Pssst, Pokemon existed and still exists outside Pokemon Go.  There’s a game coming out in a month, so it’s not really any years late.
