“Oh my god it’s just a joke don’t take it so seriously”
I’ve never liked them as a couple and always did hope they’d get a divorce or something.
Homer: “I thought of the one thing I can give you that no one else can: complete and utter dependence!”
Like the one time it’s not actually his fault, she would leave? I’m with you, totally wouldn’t go down that way.
I didn’t realize they actually still write stories for the show. I basically though at this point it was just the characters walking around just doing mundaine things. Like when you are playing a video game and you just let the character go idle for half an hour.
No one enjoys being judged, so I understand why you would complain about that. What I don't understand is why people like you also seem to want to hear that what you do is a feminist act because you're doing it by choice and not just because you have to. It's cool that you get to do what you want but you can't get…
Maybe those who hold attitudes come from an overly patriarchal family? There are still tons of dads out there who hold those antiquated “women should be in the kitchen” viewpoints. Context is key.
Ah... yes. ‘Choice’ feminism. How cute!
“It’s just bitchy.”
You’re really not sure why, or you’re coyly “not sure why?” If it’s the former, consider re-reading the article.
Omg nobody cares. You do you, but if you can’t understand how these roles have been forced on women and serve as symbols of our historical oppression, then there is no helping you.
In general, oppression does not improve human beings’ characters. Sometimes, directing anger at their oppressors, they turn on their own.
I think you’re kind of missing the point on this particular article. The point is you had the choice. You like doing that stuff? Awesome! That’s great that you are able to live a life where you can do it, and yes, you should be able to live that life without judgment. I understand you dislike the mocking or rolled…
You have a choice. Those women did not. Therein lies the difference.
Kudos for your brilliant impersonation of Betty Draper right down to the choice of name and the evocation of pursed lips, her trademark. We need to honor Betty’s memory in the final hours. I plan to wear a 50s housedress with pearls and high heels.
That is exactly what my mother told me when I was an idiot teenager. Now I’m 38, she’s 70, and our combined disgust at the surges of anti-female legislation is enough to power a small town.
The woman who came before us must be so pissed, wherever they are.
I think it’s important to note, as the author has, that our generation is removed from the generation of Mad Men. Where our generation’s feminists can look at things like ironing, baking, etc and acknowledge that both men and women can perform this task, in our mother’s generation it was women’s work.
I’m 56 and cannot understand why younger generations AREN’T as angry. Give it time. It grinds you down - even with the battles won, the shit is still there.
I will never understand how feminists can *not* be angry. This anger that permeates feminism is absolutely justified, and since women are currently losing ground and gains are being unmade, I would expect the least we can do is understand why. At which point does being a second-class citizen become something we should…
"respects women to much to subject them to me" I'll have to remember that line the next time someone asks why I'm still single.
