That AA 777 is not polished aluminum. It’s gray paint. The old livery used to feature polished aluminum, the new one does not. Couple of reasons:
As I recall, the new AA livery became necessary when airliners started being manufactured primarily out of carbon fiber, not aluminum. I recall reading that the fuel savings from flying less paint around were approximately the same as the expense of keeping all that aluminum polished regularly.
After a while it gets boring bringing your trucks to the same spot at the far end of the Walmart parking lot and you start thinking “guys, what if maybe there’s more to life”
