AlanHK: that's just it. Pulp is not a genre. It was a fiction delivery format, like television or movies. Rather, pulp contained genres: mystery, Western, science fiction, adventure, sci-fi, fantasy.

Joe R. Lansdale, great as a writer he is, is not a "pulp" writer. Pulp refers to the cheap grade of paper on which pulp magazines were printed on. It doesn't mean thrill stories. Indeed, romance was the biggest category of pulp.
Mr. Lansdale's books came out via book publishers in paperback, hardcover and
