I cannot recommend Aliette de Bodard’s Obsidian and Blood series! The first one, Servant of the Underworld is one of my favorite novels, ever! https://aliettedebodard.com/bibliography/novels/obsidian-and-blood/
Not only are they compulsively readable, but S.A. Chakraborty’s Daevabad Trilogy are a wonderful peak at a fantasy world inspired by the mythology and history of the Middle East and the Muslim world. Reading them I almost had as much fun looking up the references and myths I hadn’t ever really heard of as I did…
UPROOTED is a much better pick for Naomi. It has a stronger parallels to GOT, is more brutal and, to me, better paced and a cut above Spinning Silver.
I enjoyed that show, and yes, Saniyya Sidney was fantastic. At least that one ended with some closure.
I’ve never watched GoT and have never had any desire to. We don’t get pay cable channels (OK, we did get Starz just long enough to watch the first two seasons of Outlander and that was a waste of money for mediocre fanfic).
The Passage, the vampire (not a vampire) series got cancelled (unless Fox changed their minds over the weekend) and it has a diverse cast lead by newcomer Saniyya Sidney (she’s going to be a star, IMO)
Just need a companion article that I feel is much more deserved: How to Live in a World That’s Obsessed With The MCU.
There was a white-presenting person on the same train car with his Starbucks - breaking the same rules you’re so up in arms about - and he himself pointed out that he somehow escaped Natasha’s notice. She DIDN’T report him, even though he was breaking the same rule you’re so upset about. Somehow.
I wonder how long he has lived in, as he called it, “our neighborhood.” I am guessing a lot less than 150 years - probably less than 5.
Since the complaint involves pets, I would suspect people aren’t picking up the dog shit.
Do they set fire to the entire town, the way white baseball and basketball fans do when their teams win?
I’d love to know where he went to school and what their homecoming looks like.
As reported by DCist, Susan and the like have descended on HU’s hallowed grounds with their puppies on parade despite the fact that Northwest D.C. is full of nearby recreational parks.
Could be my advanced age, but I do not feel comfortable unless I have some folding money on me at all times. There’s always at least $100 in my wallet, and I like to have $20 or so in small bills in my shirt pocket.
Door men don’t actually just hold doors for you. When I’ve had them, they also received courier deliveries, handled grocery and dry cleaning deliveries, and served as security. They’re a convenience but definitely useful.
As someone who just spent a week at a convention, I 100% endorse the presence of bellhops. With couple hundred people checking in and out, it would have been absolutely chaos at the larger hotels in Boston if everyone was hauling their own bags.
But then you’d just end up with a Brontësaurus.
I should say, I don’t demand a show put its best into its first few episodes; it’s rare that a show even can. What I ask is that a show be good ENOUGH in its first few episodes, to show enough of its hand to make me feel like it’s worth continuing with.
Not to mention the benefits of waiting for multiple seasons just to ensure you didn’t waste your time on the first one just for the show to be canned immediately. Some people will say “if you don’t watch the first season, then the poor numbers will get it cancelled” but networks/services have had zero problem…
