I’m not sure that’s the best characterization of how it went down. But nevertheless, their last exchange—and that was the exchange that drew the violation; most of their others had been pretty amicable—didn’t strike me as particularly egregious or out of the ordinary for the situation or for the sport in general.

I wasn’t phased by the first 2 calls, but the third one I found perplexing. It’s a grand slam final and a player is venting—and not even aggressively—after a bad run. It was annoying and Serena should have left it alone, but I don’t think it rose to the level of a code violation. Both Serena and Ramos had options

I can understand the first two violations, it’s the third one that confuses me. When I was watching, I didn’t interpret Serena’s behavior as that serious. She was fussing about a call like so many other players do. Is it annoying? Yes. Is it worth a code violation, not that I’ve seen. Code violations, including the

This is spot on. I’m glad this is getting called out for what it is. That final “violation” was insane—and I say this as someone who hates on-court theatrics from anyone. I don’t want to romanticize Serena’s meltdown too much, because it was indeed a meltdown. But it’s an understandable and relatable one,

Nothing. Because if you check the “saved articles” tab on your profile, it’s just a list of stuff that you starred. Upgrades, shrug.

I found distraction to be the best tactic, otherwise, I would spend the whole run complaining in my head. Music wasn’t enough but podcasts worked great. I’d sometimes go a little bit extra if it was a particularly good one.

Oh yeah! I should know to keep the Italians in order since I love those ladies.

Serena well knows not to underestimate anyone, especially someone who has beaten her. She’s a very different player than she was in the spring when Osaka got her win, but she won’t take her opponent for granted given that factoid and the memory of Flavia Pannetta at the Open.

I think serena has a good chance of getting her 24 although it won’t be easy. Nevertheless it’s gonna be a fun final between Serena and Naomi (who continues to be delightful). And I will collect my $5 from my dad who was so annoyed I backed Osaka over trifling Madison Keys. Still I’m loving all the black excellence.

Right!?!? Not only is Bethesda not reminiscent of urban DC in any way, it’s not even close to places in actual DC that are associated with an urban environment. I mean was he dodging bullets in Tenleytown? Ducking from drive-bys in Glover Park? Using the buddy system in Chevy Chase?

I blame House Hunters for the modern version of this. There was this one episode that the description said was DC, but this lady was looking at houses way out in Herndon. This is absurd.

My comment was in direct response to the OP of this thread and the exact content of the article. My suggestion is that if you have a platform to promote, you should be more accurate about how you make it and to whom.

I mean, sure, but that doesn’t respond to any of the points that I’m making.

Totally agree, especially on point 1. I’m a bit annoyed about it actually. There are hundreds of thousands of people in the executive branch alone. And there are some really dedicated people working throughout the administration who are keeping their head down to low-key protect certain rights and procedures, insulate

Yeah, that’s the pits. I know it’s frustrating to be sidelined like that. That motivation sounds about right for me too. I found running more satisfying than enjoyable. I have a lot of friends who run marathons and 5Ks and such, but I never wanted that. I liked the satisfaction of doing my 20-30 minute runs and that’s

You know, you’re right, they do deserve credit for getting better. There’s a ways to go, but they took steps to not be a global atrocity anymore.

Yeah, I give Nike total kudos for this while also urging them to get their act together on their labor practices.

This is true and correct.

I’d say at least half of my friends don’t use Facebook much anymore for various reasons (myself included). It’s actually difficult to find a platform everyone uses so good ole email still does the trick.

Decent defense—it makes sense for people who rely on their phones to primarily communicate, I guess; not so much otherwise. And I can agree for emails that don’t involve a lot of people.
