MOm was mentally ill, overwhelmed with too many children and poverty, plus hated to cook. I never learned and don't like it. I have taught myself several basic recipes from Joy of Cooking and Mark Bittman cookbooks but it is still a major chore to me. 

I’m Jewish from South Jersey so no pork roll, but some bagels and whitefish salad or some corned beef on Sunday morning and you have a feast. I also make a killer brisket -- and I can't even cook.

I can’t cook worth a darn. My two sisters are excellent at it. My two brothers I don’t have a clue. My hubby shames me over it so I’ve been on strike for about two years. Can’t say as he’s noticed but he has taken over some of the cooking duties. LOL. BTW, mom was terrible and weaponized food.

Realistically you’re not spending $30. You’re splitting it in half, thirds or quarters with your friends, so your share is $15, $10 or $7.50. Very reasonable for what you're getting.
