Yeah I think he's meant to be younger in the book, but to be honest - who would they have gotten? They needed someone with proper name recognition to go alongside the less well known Rosamund Pike. Someone around the 30-32 year old age bracket. Every actor I could think of was in the skinny/english guy category.

I don't know why Ben Affleck wouldn't make a good Nick Dunne. I genuinely think it was good casting! Affleck sometimes has this look of desperation and restlessness in his eyes that I think will translate well to this character
