My niece recently became pregnant. After the initial joy has subsided a bit now, the very real concern has started to sink in about the financial part of it. She and her partner are already a bit overwhelmed trying to figure out how to make it work.

The “baby bust,” long predicted by researchers and feared by the sorts of people...
True in terms of numbers but the average subway does about _$350j in business vs mcd at 2.7mm. the average mcd operator has more cash flow than subway has business
Me, sometimes; their sandwiches are still a pretty decent value, are made fresh in front of you to order, and if you go light on the cheese and condiments, are some of the healthiest sandwiches you can get from a fast food place.
“this all tastes the same to me.”
Don’t worry, my dad’s taste has always been horrible. He’s never been able to tell good food from bad, in part I suspect because he’s never prepared his own meals. He’s always just eaten whatever his mother, and then his wife, put in front of him. They catered to his bland tastes and he never developed a sort of…
Who eats at Subway? My dad, who has been scientifically proven to have the worst palate in the history of the world. You point him at shitty food and terrible wine and he is in heaven. He probably eats Subway twice a week, despite the fact that the Subway nearest to us is on the same strip of road as a Panera,…
This reeks of a bunch of executives that have “business” degrees but that have never run an actual business themselves. They know how to in “theory” but not in practice. Reminds me of when I Was working at Pizza Hut corporate came in to all our local stores to “fix things” started cutting people hours, instead of…
Wha... whattt?
Ugh... Had a friend at subway who saw his co-workers going at it on the sandwich counter. Ever since that story I don't associate subway with food. Is that mayo on the counter or is it cream of somyoungui?
Pretty much the same reason people eat at Starbucks or McDonalds: they’re everywhere.
Because the are conveniently located, fast, reasonably cheap, open until the wee hours of the night, and provide sustenance. All that combined makes them an excellent choice when I don’t feel like making my own food.
Me.
From a business standpoint, always assuming that a customer wants a small is selling yourself short. I have had a number of sales positions, and I was always trained to assume that the customer wants something more expensive. It’s a relatively easy sales technique (and one of the most lucrative). By forcing the…
It seems more logical, at least to me, that “medium” would be the default, as “small” and “large” feel like modifiers.
All our cups our behind the counter at Taco Bell, but our sauces, lids, straws, and napkins were moved back out to the lobby. We watch closely to make sure someone who orders a 99¢ sweet tea only gets the tea and someone who asks for a water doesn't get anything else
I always ask for the medium. I have a good cadence now where I hit all the answers before they get asked.
However, I will still get a large drink on occasion, even though I asked for the medium.
I think it’s because McDs only charges $1 for the soda in a combo meal, no matter what size you get. In my head, I think it’s…
This article is about corporate policy. No one said the worker was to blame. Don’t change the focus, but honestly how is pushing a soda different then up-selling a combo? In both cases you get more than you want and the store increases profit.
I’m fine with that, my complaint is McDonald’s aggressively assumes everybody wants the large.
I just assume people want the small...if they want medium or large, they can ask.
