Say in German accent: “Let’s just make the car fake the emissions test. What’s the worst that could happen?” Yeah, they always think ahead.

Indeed, the opportunity to make the first c8 comment was gone in 60 seconds.

Hard to choose NP or CP because I lost interest when I scrolled down the ad and saw one of my all-time most irritating Craigslist pet peeves:
A brand new, high performance, mid-engined, V8 car with a warranty for only $60k? You’re out of your mind! That would be a crazy bargain! No manufacturer would do that!
Or..or for 60k... you could have a better looking car, with the same performance a mid engined V8 & a warranty...
You can have a stock 09 gtr for 50 to 60k. That way you avoid tacky exterior mods.
Wheels that change color? Wow, the owner really put cash where it counts. 27,000 miles with a large percentage of those miles being 1/4s. No one cares about $40,000 worth of receipts. No thank you. CP
Seriously. I live across the street from a coffee shop and around the corner from an event space AND a brewery. It was awesome until these scooters showed up. People leave them every-god-damn-where. In the street, in my yard, even once in my actual driveway. I almost backed my car over it, marking the first time my…
That’s a solution that can only work in Germany.
2nd Gear:
3rd gear: Good. I hate the scooter litter. There has to be a better way to handle this.
“Hmmm.... Yeah, looks like you definitely got one of your obnoxious cardigans stuck in your serpentine belt again, Todd.”
As the manager of the BMW team at an independent euro-specialist auto shop, these things are maintenance nightmares starting around this mileage. Unless you can get extensive service records showing some of the major things have been completed, I’d steer clear.
The price is in the right ball park for a diesel X5 of similar vintage, mileage, and visual condition based on a quick search. Go buy one of those instead of dealing with one that has a lien.
I’m not worried about the recession. I just bought a house and I just refuse to participate in the recession. I say this coming and predicted that it would hit in May of this year (this was in 2017) so when it didn’t, I went ahead and pulled the trigger on a VERY good deal that I found.
Total CP, Its not a 2000. The engine in the picture is a R16 1600cc. It does have a 2000 grill installed. Even in the craigslist add the first 3 digits of the VIN are SPL, a 2000 would have a VIN starting with SRL.
Looks complete and it’s evaded the roving packs of tinworms that ate most of the early Japanese imports. Who cares if if it’s mechanically goobered? Absolute worst case scenario you graft in a 240sx’s running gear. Bit of elbow grease and you’ve got a neat little Japanese sportscar that isn’t a Miata. If I had the…
Judging this by the value of the (hopeful) end result, I’d say it’s Nice Price. It needs lots of scrubbing and a bunch of mechanical disassembly, care and reassembly, but I don’t think there’s anything here that couldn’t be refurbished with the possible exception of those pseudo-SU sidedraft carbs.
