interesting. Season 1 blew so hard though, I always (subjectively) thought season 2 was at least a little bit better. I think that’s because by season 2 Worf and Geordie were in yellow and Geordie got his massive promotion to chief engineer, while in season 1 they had no idea what to do with either character.

Wouldn’t be surprised about the defering of scripts later- but yeah first year of TNG was kinda a disaster. They had I think the pilot and a few episodes worked out already but because of the strike they relyed heavily on Roddenberry who was at this point still alive.

The reason it sucked hardcore and nearly tanked the baby series is because it was produced during a writers strike. That’s why so many plots were re-hashes of TOS and why some of the characters were really bad until season 2 or 3
