I bet those speeches originally said “economically superior”. Probably just an overzealous staffer looking to cut for time or something.

“The fact was that conditions of labor, soil, and climate had produced a static society in the South which refused to accept the implications of the Nineteenth Century.”

And Eli Whitney just made it worse when he invented a device that turned cotton into gin and sent global demand soaring.

Look, nobody else was available! They asked around. Everyone else was too busy being free to do the slavery.

As if reducing African slaves, human fucking beings, down to just units of labor under the scope of economics isn’t racist on its face.

So wait wait wait wait wait. It’s fucking COINCIDENCE that every single slave in the antebellum South just happened to be black?

They were bringing in these folks because they were available.

Normally I’d agree but I think the ending is perfect. One of the few romantic speeches I actually find romantic. And having them be the final couple in those vignettes made perfect sense.

There is no context in the world that will make her behavior acceptable.

I am actually very curious how someone in Ansari’s position could really own up or say something that would really appease us. It just seems like someone in this position is relatively doomed (rightfully or wrongfully—I’m not making a judgement on that): anything he said would probably have not been enough. And that’s

This sounds pretty dope, but is it weird that I read “Flintstone Dick” and immediately assumed (correctly it seems) that Issa Rae was involved?

Yeah, I totally recognize that face, and I know it’s from something I saw relatively recently, but it’s none of the things mentioned in the article.

6k is a fucking joke.

Is having to go back on a probationary period on a job that you are already working common? The company I worked for has been through acquisitions and mergers 3 times now, and at no point was I ever bumped back to “probationary” status. I kept my PTO, benefits changed a little but were still there.. etc..

Any time this site entertains the perspective of the extreme left-wing it’s a WILD ride.

I totally agree - expand peoples’ definition of what a family is, and be accepting of families in all forms, but this viewpoint, where families are only a source of negativity, is bizarre.  People are social animals who thrive in supportive environments.  I don’t get this at all.

You don’t have to abolish the traditional family in order to make non-traditional or chosen families acceptable.

Oof.  It’s all so manipulative.  She hasn’t earned a lot of good will in my book but she is right on this.  It’s bullshit.

It was written by Scooter, right?
