My company also does this and I’m not a fan. As someone who gets sick very often I tend to work through my sickness and put my coworkers at risk of infection. Luckily for really bad days I have the option of working from home one day a week and not affecting my PTO. Still, I’m always worried about the vacation plans…

Same here, and we are only allowed to roll 40 hours over. So being the responsible worker-bee I am I ALWAYS make sure that I have 40 hours to roll over (so in the case I leave I am guaranteed at least 2 week payout).

In this same situation, here. Illness in the family can also eat up all of your PTO. So, pray for your health and your family’s. #cancerkillsvacation

“Vacation” and “retirement” are two words that do not apply to the vast majority of American workers any more.

My last workplace did this, and it was bloody annoying because it led to many people coming to work sick - and infecting the rest of us. (Not always their fault: one coworker had 2 kids and they cycled through colds regularly, so she quickly ran out of leave time no matter how she divvied it up.)

I actually like it, because as someone who almost never gets sick, there’s no temptation to fake being sick just for a vacation day or otherwise see them wasted. On the other hand, when you’re just a little sick (but probably still contagious), you don’t want to “waste” a day that could be used later on as vacation.

Lame! I would not like that :(

Yeah, that’s how I am too. I always hoard my PTO days because I might get sick and need them, and then in years when I get lucky (like this year) I end up having to use it all up in the last couple months because it doesn’t roll over. :(
