If you hate (I assume you meant hate) Windows 8 so much that you got a Mac, you didn't give it a chance. There were really a few minor UI changes that were easy to work around, but past that it was just a better version of Windows 7 (especially with the improvements in 8.1).

Apple copied the idea from Googles NFC payment method used on Android phones like the Galaxy Nexus I had in Dec. 2011. Just saying. How is this news? I think I saw this on Bill Nye, as well as several other sources (not the exact same video, but a different video showing the exact same result).

There really should be some sort of concrete design and prototype submitted with a patent. Apple is just being a patent troll by patenting virtually any method conceptually plausible even without any mechanism to make it happen so they can sue anyone who eventually figures it out.
