why don't you just flash the google play edition ROM onto your S4? that gives it vanilla android, lets you keep your MicroSD and IR blaster

uh... no. check out Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper. I've had my nexus 4 rooted and stock since 4.2 (4.2.1, 4.2.2, now on 4.3). no need to reflash anything.
