If it was only about office that might have worked. I have seen web apps that need IE, Silverlight AND Flash to run, and those apps weren’t cheap (I’m thinking in the $100.000's). A company can’t just throw that all out of the window.

480 tabs...that’s insane :) If I don’t want to close a tab I usually drag the url into a folder on my desktop. What mostly happens is that I never open it again, but at least it’s there if I need it.
