Isabelle Allende is one of my all-time favorite authors and I was nervous about this but this review has left me cautiously optimistic. I’ve read the majority of her novels and her writing is so autobiographical, I feel like I’m already invested in these “characters” (thinking about the revolutionary musician

Yeah Jellinek and Meatman Stu are regulars on At Home With Amy Sedaris (which agreed, is delightful!) I was hoping to see Hollimon but so far no luck. Agreed that he was consistently hilarious, Strangers With Candy had a ridiculous amount of talent and he was a standout.

Yes to all of this especially Percy Kittens! My husband and I quote his bizarre squirrel suit video all the time. Why hasn’t the actor who played Onyx Blackman been in anything else lately?

I totally think it’s a generational thing and I think of him as of the same generation as a lot of soundcloud rappers who just sound super depressed and on pills to me. This is probably how my parents felt about grunge. I can see how his shtick resonates with depressed, horny youths.

I feel like this video would have been pretty baffling to me before I moved to Southern California but after living here for a while, it all makes such beautiful, perfect sense. This is without a doubt the most SoCal shit I’ve ever seen (and I know someone who knows Angelyne).

Yeah Antebellum looked like Kindred without the introspection. I heard it was not good and when I saw this was not a direct adaptation of the Butler book, I was disappointed.

As soon as it started I was struck by goddamn, what a brilliant idea to combine haunted house tropes with the actual horrors that middle class Black people faced trying to move into white neighborhoods. This actual history is so bloody (Trumbull was referenced and that violence was all over, like sundown towns. They ca

Yeah, I totally think it’s a personality & charisma thing with Cardi B. I’m a woman and I loved her album, she reminds me of Luda, her lines are just fun to shout! She is nowhere near as technically skilled as Meghan and it shows on this track but her verses are still fun as hell. When she pops up and yells “Macaroni

YES and her mom, the only other Black woman on that show? It was all such a mess and made me hate it.

I suspect all of that is him rebelling against being a heartthrob. It’s no secret he hated it and I think he knew he was being off-putting and weird. He’s trolling. I kind of love it.

Yeah, I would watch this pretty much anywhere else. I felt the same about Sweet Dee’s series.

This is a feel-good story that I needed to read. BRAVO!!!

Counterpoint: Watchmen.

Oh man, these are some good episodes! I always appreciated shows like Girlfriends that center such a wide range of Black womanhood/femininity, outside of the stereotypes we are so often forced into on tv (sex object, angry, uncouth etc). It was especially novel at the time, tv representation has expanded a lot in the

That’s funny, on the first Cursed write up a few of us mentioned Mists of Avalon and I commented on being disappointed that the avclub writer didn’t seem more familiar with women centered fantasy as a sub genre:https://tv.avclub.com/1844418494

YESSS to Gina Torres’ Cleopatra, didn’t this show also have a Black Helen of Troy? Love it.

Wow, I am impressed by how much I want to watch this! I don’t usually like shows like Politically Incorrect but I think that may be due to the guests and host, not format. The Overton window on tv in the states is so far to the right, I wonder what the political discourse will look like on this show, what will Amazon

Ditto on missing the old AV Club quality standards.

It’s weird to me that this reviewer talks about Frank Miller centering the women in Arthurian legends as though that’s something novel about this show. I came up in the era of Mists of Avalon (which others have mentioned is admittedly problematic) and there was basically an entire sub-genre of what I think of as “90s f

The phrase “A John Waters movie for the Billie Eilish generation” makes me unreasonably happy.
