Harry Potter Jr.? Really?

It’s interesting, actually, to think about why Marvel is unlikely to break that mold in the movies. Overall, their movies are so successful that, carping of nerds aside, there doesn’t seem to be a compelling business reason for Marvel to change it up. Of course, the audience as a whole could grow tired of the

I have never watched a moment of this show. But I would watch that.

When you say “he,” are you referring to Thor or Hemsworth? I’m honestly not sure which is funnier.

I certainly agree that actors of color (read “actors” to include “actresses”) don’t get the same opportunities that white actors do. It would be ridiculous to argue otherwise.

Did anyone notice that Chris Hemsworth kept slipping into an Australian accent during that scene? Or was I imagining it?

GWB seems better in retrospect than he did at the time. He was a pretty bad president. But at least he wasn’t odious on a personal level.

“It won’t be THAT bad.”

It’s an interesting choice, but not just on the gender issue. Han Solo is famously dismissive of droids. Even when C3PO saves his live (with Luke’s help) in RotJ, he’s far from grateful. If this rumor pans out, will this show how Han came to feel that way about droids? Intriguing.

I laughed. But now I feel dirty.

Counter-example: Joe Manchin, D-WV. Otherwise known as, “Whatever the President wants” Joe. He’s a Republican in all but name. He’ll vote with the Rs for Gorsuch and he’ll get re-elected.

If the Roman Republic had had nuclear weapons and the internet, it wouldn’t have lasted that long. And look what followed shortly after the Republic’s demise: Caligula.

It’s an honor just to be nominated!

“Can we get the old io9 balance back please?”

I think it was mostly the wasted opportunity that hurt so badly. There was some imaginative stuff in Miracle Day and it had a very good cast. But the writing was often poor and the story simply had no idea what to do with Jack, which is pretty dire when he’s the main character. I thought the plot the story turned on

I do get that. If we were dealing with a lesser character, I would agree wholeheartedly. For instance, if Lucasfilms had simply recast Tarkin, I think the overwhelming majority of the audience would have accepted it without blinking.

They don’t look that much alike and I’m not familiar with her work, but one obvious possible recasting choice would be Carrie’s actress half-sister Joely Fisher. In this saga where family ties are so crucial, it seems appropriate to have Carrie’s sister-by-another-mother step in for her — always assuming that Joely

Good points both, but you left out reason #3, and the principal reason in all likelihood: FOX wouldn’t have greenlit Firefly at all if the lead had not been male. Not that I think that was Whedon’s motivation for the line-up, but he’s an industry pro, and he would have known what sells and what doesn’t.

I haven’t seen anyone express this better. Well done!

Actually, the guy who said he selfishly wants the tax cutting and pro-business policies he expects to see, and doesn’t care about the specific statements that Trump made, gave the most cogent reasons I have heard yet for voting for Trump. They may be reprehensible reasons, but at least they’re thought through.
