If you did want a book about fasting women I would recommend ‘Holy Feast, Holy Fast’ by Caroline Walker Bynum. It is an academic text but it is thoroughly engaging and I read it in one sitting.

I have a chronic illness that means I can’t physically do the footwork or hold my sabre for all that long. My tip is to run people off piste. I found running full pelt at people distracted them from counter attacking (I’m 5"3 so not the longest reach).
