FFIX was my first true RPG game, and still holds as my very favorite - or least story-wise. No other game comes close in terms of activating emotions deep in my loins like this beauty.

Oh god, the music in this game was amazing. It gets probably the least amount of play in the distant worlds sets but i think its the best soundtrack of all the FF games.
I’ve read approx. 8 Shakespeare plays, you should try it before projecting yourself onto others!
And that’s when we kidnap the queen.
i’m not much of a gamer, so i was wondering if any other series had a mascot animal like chocobos in FF?
This game is not for those with depression. The story of most characters will captivate you. And crush your soul. And make you cry. And then feel joy for having them relieved (released? The English Language lacks words for it) from their pain.
A great thing Final Fantasy IX did was existing.
I think that scene in 9 owes a lot to Vamo alla da flamenco. Could listen to that track forever.
The great thing FFIX did? EVERYTHING!
Holy crap, I still think of FFIX as new.
FUCK TETRA MASTER!
In Final Fantasy 8, there’s a scene on a train. You have to get passed all these security measures. One point has a section where you have to evade guards with Thermal sensors (so you cant stand still) and motion sensors (So you can’t keep moving.)
Don’t get me wrong, I love Final Fantasy IX, but anyone who compares it with “heavy Shakespeare” clearly has not read ANY Shakespeare at all.
The only problem is some of those mini games are maddeningly frustrated and poorly designed. Hippaul Racing and the Jump Rope thing come to mind.
ClearlySquare these days are all Oglops :/
99 nobles but a bitch ain’t one
IMO also makes the game replayable. I live for that swordfighting minigame and the mini-game music that goes with it.
9 is probably my favorite. But the best QTE was in 8, when the Galbadians are attacking the garden and Squall has to save Rinoa from the quad I think? And you have that fight against that flying Soldier while hanging on a rope off his hover craft.
They took risks rather than go constantly for fail-proof, optimal choices. It’s like a love story: who’s gonna take the first few horrifying steps to reach the other’s heart? I feel like this is what happens when developers take artistic, passionate risks.
Most games today are like acquaintances; it’s fun to hang out…
Man I still remember losing my shit when I got IX on launch day in November 2000. I was 14 and FF had been a part of my life since I was about 6 or 7. PS1 was my favorite console and them saying this was the last PS1 FF made it really special for me. Playing that sword fight in the beginning with Vamo Alla Flamenco…
