There’s a thin line between ally and opportunist. An ally shows up and stands WITH (or in this case, as a SHIELD in front of BLM from police & mercenaries) and accedes leadership and direction to the cause. I am so glad you said this. I used to have a friendship with a lady who is a Trump fanatic, and she would always defend him and other Republicans with “whataboutism.” And, like you, I would say fine, that person should be held to the same standards.

I have had similar conversations with conservative family members regarding multiple subjects. Every time they pull the “yeah but [insert criminal/corrupt/sleazy Democrat or liberal here] did something just as serious” I tell them good, then prosecute that person too.
