I’ll be pulling out the ol’ cheesy pick-up lines amid the rain of fire.

I agree. This is ugh.

Because God doesn’t exist, so pinning your security on prayer alone seems unhelpful at best? Addressing gun violence through legislation, rather than prayer, seems a bit more likely to yield results.

I was wondering where you went, and I guess I came late to the dance of finding out why. I’m sad to see you go. You were definitely my favourite writer on Jez. Good luck!

I just did! Yay marketing!

mmmm indeed. As I mentioned in another thread I’m trying to get on the ‘Cheers’ bandwagon but happily I also no longer have to send corporate emails (at least for a while). The salutations issue was something I spent far too much time on. I am also a procrastinator. If that is not already obvious.

But you’re not always thanking someone! I used thanks/regards interchangeably but they’re so limiting. I think I need a salutations thesaurus for Christmas.

I got sooo sick of Regards and Best Regards or even Kind Regards. I’m all in on Cheers, now.

Wow. I get an F on pop culture awareness evidently. I thought this was a Children of the Corn reference. over.my.head.

Honestly, I can’t say I’ve spoken to one woman who said she would want to get with Paul Ryan, or who was interested in his physique. Generally when he came up in conversation it was to discuss his odious policy stance. Call me crazy, but it’s a pretty big turn off.

Uh, focusing on Hillary’s hair vs. her credentials is sexism. It’s an issue that has cropped up in her career again and again. It’s bullshit. Male politicians don’t deal with this kind of scrutiny in the way that female politicians do. And your comparison to Brad Pitt? She’s the secretary of state. Not someone

I was ok with Prometheus, even though there were problems I’m such a huge Alien fan that I had to like it (though I know that’s also a reason why so many people hated it). But in Avatar all I was thinking was…. “so Pocahontas redux in 3D?” with the expected white saviour complex thrown in. Couldn’t like it.

Your friends are silly.

I love how people online seem to be so binary. "The answer is yes or no! There is no middle ground!" "If you care about x, you are in no way able to care about y!"

Aw, shucks. Thanks! (Also not sarcastic!)

I really did just say that - or at least part of that. Infection due to the use of unsterile instruments, like the razor blades you mentioned, is a leading cause of deaths resulting from FGM. So yes, I think using clean instruments is a start. It's called harm reduction. But that's not all that I said. I also said

But the UN isn't swooping in. They are going to make a declaration. Just like the declaration on human rights and the convention for the elimination of discrimination against women. I don't think these steps are bad or wrong, but they're not going to end the practice, just like they haven't ended human rights abuses

This has to be one of the most complicated issues in terms of women’s rights and ending violence against women. While this practice is done on babies and young girls, it is often done by the women in the family. So to suggest that women don’t have any say or agency in deciding to do this, is false. However, this

I recently felt a lot of shame when I had to explain to my friend why my cat doesn't have a water dish, but drinks out of a regular glass on the floor. He just prefers them! And, evidently, he is wearing the tiny, cat-sized pants in this relationship.

It has happened. And it was great. From the San Diego Comic Con a few years ago when WBC was protesting there.
