That’s software for you. A more realistic version of the Matrix would have had Neo defeating the agents by taking a particularly circuitous route to the deli.

I’m keeping this short. Thank you for your thoughtful response.

I never said “savage” was never a slur. However, I am of the strong opinion it is no longer. You’re much more likely to hear it used to describe an action or feeling online these days, and probably not at all in everyday life.

I won’t claim to be Native

You saying this proves the other persons point perfectly. You are completely ignoring the persons point and acting like a child by calling the word savage their “baby”. Not surprising considering you don’t seem like the type of person that wants to have actual an actual discourse.  Be better.

My dad dealt with a lot of racism growing up and while I’ve had an easier time of it, I’ve got my share of problems too. I just get tired of my people getting treated like fragile porcelain by white dudes who want to feel woke. The word savage isn’t gonna hurt us. Institutionalized racism hurts us. Police hurt us.

ohhhh savage burn

I really don’t understand the “PC culture” complaining people. When I’m in India, we eat with our hands and make sloppy noises when eating. For people over there, that’s a normal thing. I don’t do that when I am around people I know find that thing disgusting. I fart at home, a lot. I don’t do that in other places.

As someone all for trying to put more thought into the language used and it’s appropriateness going forward, I’ll ultimately have to admit this fell short of convincing.

I mean, you’re entitled to your opinion but to suggest the “Dude’s just talkin’ about a video game name” when it’s pretty clear the conversation Paul is trying to start is so much larger than that is pretty stupid - respectfully.

This article is an EXTREME stretch. The game is meant as satire- it’s clearly so. It’s driven home in game. Not everything has to be a moral /existential validation crisis.

You’re super good at logical fallacies. Like, crazy good.
Other synonyms for savage:

What an incredibly disingenuous take on what I was saying and how incredibly naive to think a words meaning and context can’t change over time or isn’t inherently tied to how the person is using it in their language.

This feels like the most manufactured of manufactured controversies. I Googled “savage” as requested, and got the following as the first result.

None of the definitions feel inherently racist, and the initial adjectival definition feels like it serves the game perfectly. Sure, the developers *could* have chosen a

Keeping up with the “you can’t use that word” anymore treadmill is definitely exhausting.

Man, I certainly appreciate that there are other perspectives out there than my own, but as someone who likes to think they’re incredibly sympathetic (empathetic when I can be), shit like this drives me absolutely nuts.

uuuuuugh

That’s totally fair. If a writer wants to criticize a game for not featuring gender representation, that’s totally fine. That’s valuable journalism, and it helps you make the informed choice I discussed in my original post.

Was it?

If a game or developer does not align with your politics and you feel strongly about it, then don’t buy the game. By all means, take a stand. Sign an online petition stating that you’re not buying the game because it fails to give equal representation to women. If you want to enact real change and enough people feel

Thankfully, I already finished Spidey, but for someone who cares so much about spoilers, you sure are quick to give them out.

Um, I agree with you that the guy was in no danger whatsoever, and he got what was coming to him, especially since the woman is pregnant, but let’s not get carried away with making people feel bad for lashing out after being intentionally aggravated, so take my post as being unrelated to the main scenario at hand and
