How can you teach current with no context of past? That’s the issue. Most people have no clue or fail to want to know about the systematic ways that the US has engineered this race, class, inequality thing from the beginning. The intricacies of exactly what the fed to city governments did and how it impacts the issues…

“Discourse”...bah. That will get you absolutely nowhere with high school kids. I say teach them about recent civil rights history, the whos, whens, wheres and whys and emphasize the individuals who made a difference and how they did so. Knowledge is enlightenment, too many people just have no clue about how we ended…

I’ve encountered far too many people who believe that introspection is unhealthy to be surprised by this outrage.

Oh...you can move there if you’re black...just don’t bring all your black friends with you.
