I was going through a miserable breakup too, and thought that spending my birthday alone in NYC (where I didn't know anybody) would be a great idea. Of course I felt utterly miserable all day, but decided to treat myself to dinner (with a glass of Taittinger, a friend had given me a $20 dollar bill to buy myself fancy

despite the fact that there are only three ages for women in Hollywood: Babe, District Attorney, and Driving Miss Daisy.

There is a reason Andrew Breitbart dropped dead in his early 40s. There is nothing healthy about choking on your own bile as a career choice.

There's nothing wrong with her body, that's how a 47 year old body looks, if you're lucky and have very, very good genes. Why people should continue the myth that beautiful = young I don't know. Because as a species our window of youth is relatively small, and we'll be old far longer than young. That's a long time to

Well, when they'll LITERALLY accept any position besides "I think you're a subhuman and undeserving of love, and will pay to support one of the most vitriolic, hate-filled campaigns in history to ensure you explicitly are stripped of rights that, for others I approve of, I consider to be the single most important

So fucking dumb. Do you think someone who is a KKK member should be kept in their high-profile job by a company? How about a neo-nazi?

So proud that we have someone who is both a doctor and a judge on staff.

It's time for confiscatory tax rates. 91% on any income over $1 million, Eisenhower style.

Where is Jack Torrence when you really need him?

If I found out my kid did was involved in something like this, I would smack the smirk off of his or her face. And stick them with next semester's bill. See how cute they think it is when they have to work their asses off like the housekeeping staff at this place.

I blame the glorification of thuggishness that pervades white culture...a level of disrespect that is too often passed down from white parents (especially white single parents) to their white children.

How about we reply with this isn't a big deal and non-black people need to stop making this into a big deal. It's insulting that white people have taken it upon themselves to make news stories about why we should be offended by an actor using an outdated term for "black people". He didn't even need all that apology; a

Hey, it still got you off.... work.

I'd rather have an overestimated storm than an underestimated one. It's much easier to blame the meteorologist than to be unprepared when shit hits the fan.

My approach is that it needs to be done realistically. Like, for example, our free market has created an expectation that every single publicly traded company will beat its forecasts of profitability, and it has to do that four times a year. And if you're profitable, but not as profitable as last year, you're punished.

What part of being proud of my organization is me "wanting to be a brand"? My organization has a brand, but I am not that brand. I feel perfectly human, and I'm not even sure what the ever loving fuck "existentially inauthentic" is supposed to mean. I'm doing me, which feels pretty damn authentic.

I just literally went into the independent significance of my organization. There's no rigidity in repeating facts. My organization has supported and empowered women for almost 150 years, and I hope it will continue to do so for another 150.

Nah, I absolutely appreciate your rant. You're proud and knowledgeable of what you've done and you're not a shrinking violet about it. I was more thinking that you don't need to get snark from all sides, which...now that I've seen what this thread is like...well, it looks crappy.

It's okay. Apparently you can't be a proud sorority woman and a feminist at the same time on the internet. Good to know. Lesson learned.

I wanted to send in a defense of talking about Greek/sorority culture, and also acknowledge the potential good side of these organizations. I'm a professor at a major state university, one where Greek life doesn't play a huge role in the life of the campus, but forms a significant presence nevertheless.
