I thought the dirty little secret on a lot of these “influencers” was that most of their followers/commenters are just other people trying to be “influencers”-they follow/comment to each other with their own handle (address? I’m not on Insta, their @thing), hoping to get a follow back.

Fellow old lady (and frequent ranter) here!!

I don’t know how many of these teachings are “scriptural”. They all look like american Puritanism disguising itself as Christianity to me.

Are people monetizing their lives like this the reason (or at least part of the reason) Instagram moved away from a chronological timeline to whatever it is now? I can’t imagine that there were a lot of people clamoring for a feed where you have to scroll past half a dozen 2 day old sponcon posts before you can see

Well, also it’s super antisemitic.

It’s kind of like they’re telling women, “the source of power is not actually having any power.” Because “modesty” also includes not being forward in your actions, not being an obvious leader, not showing your talents....basically, women are to be quiet and subservient.  Emphasis on the subservient.  That’s your

Also, what they’re actually teaching here is that women have sexual power over men, and they should wield it by embracing modesty.

In a couple years, they start learning about the strength through submission bullshit.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa WHOA. Nobody said burqa. Hahahahahaha, of course that’s not necessary.  That’s a heathen muslim garment. Jesus loves you and wants you to have greater freedoms than those terrorists. But just, like, one or two more freedoms. Don’t go crazy with the freedom, young lady.

Social media has created acult of the amateur” (quoting the book of the same name which got panned in the Tech industry because a lot of “amateurs” didn’t like it. An amateur in this context is a person with no actual experience, degree, internship, and so on garnering tons of attention on social media. People

Yes. And even if you follow all these rules, if something does not go according to plan, then it must have been something you did. They cannot accept that sometimes bad things happen to women through no fault of their own. Oh no, you must have broken SOME rule and are a sinner and should be ashamed.

I was subject to this trope for years. To say it has warped my psyche and held me back in self-development is an understatement. None of these “scriptural teachings” they drown you in are arguable to them, so if you don’t conform or agree to all of them, you are a devil-worshiping whore who is going straight to hell.

Me: Jesus Christ.

The late night talk show announcement is a little odd, but she doesn’t have great name recognition nationally so maybe she wanted to boost the audience that heard/saw the announcement as much as possible. I worked closely with her and her staff on the campus sexual assault legislation she authored with Claire

If Biden throws his hat in the ring, are there any Constitutional rules that prevent, say, a former President from becoming VP?

Agreed. I hate that I feel for Stassi this season because I used to utterly despise her. But she especially had a rough episode on Monday, first the meltdown with Beau (which I can understand as we all know when you’ve only had terrible relationships you freak out about little things because that’s what you’re used

I understand Stassi so much better after seeing her mom in action. Holy. Shit. Also, I swooned so hard for Beau. I agree with Stassi’s mom that Beau is a good guy, but that’s the beginning and the end of me sharing anything with her. And fuck Kristen (and Katie) for how they treated Stassi when her mom pulled that

I wonder who Vladimir will tell Ivanka to pick?

It’s quite spectacular, isn’t it? Like watching someone holding a gun to their own head, threatening to pull the trigger, who then realizes it’s a very stupid idea, but who pulls the trigger anyway, because doing otherwise would look “weak.”

Imagine you had a job, and that job was for two years to negotiate an agreement with a bloc of 27 nations who all have competing interests while you lead a not entirely united but still cohesive Parliament.
