You don't have to pay $300 a month to play SL. But you absolutely can pay $300 or however much you wanted to spend there.
Most people who play second life spend $20 $40 a month for a parcel of land, and most pay nothing.. I have been playing second life for 7 years….there are a lot of free stuff.
