On the other hand, unruly hair fashions down nicely within a helmet. A little Murray’s and yer all dapper’d for the day, maybe three ; )

16 year federal firefighter here, with 10 years hotshotting. Pay is a very serious issues among our ranks. Attrition is approaching pandemic proportions here in SoCal. It feels like everyone is leaving federal employment for, well, anything. It’seems breaking my heart. Seriously.

Such great questions, such great responses! And just a phenomenal job all around, Sean. You’ve brought so much fun with your efforts here. It may seem saccharin to hear, but from a guy who lost his dad last month, I’m all about throwing props wherever I see the opportunity. Blessings in all you do, amigo!

Super awesome ending on the old Needles bridge, which was scrapped just after Convoy filmed. Growing up in a small town like that...jeez, makes me nostalgic! It was a bonus our school principal got cast as an extra, the extraordinary Jim Aiken ( RIP). Townsfolk remained suspicious the tractor launch off the West end

I almost cried once with that. I may have cried. It was a very low moment in all my life and has not been repeated since. As helpless and seemingly without any remaining hope. And the sky cruel. And then, ten minutes later covered in sand and up from beneath a creosote, kicked to life and all brilliant exploding suns

Absolutely this, especially for folks that can plate one locally. I’ve had two as desert sleds since about, oh, 1994. I honestly get a little too beat up riding WFO whoops on it at 45 years old, but won’t likely ever get rid of her. Piloting 500s are profoundly visceral and I wish anyone interested in things two wheel

Might be an article in that. KX500s can be had all day for sooooo cheap...and at 25 years old they’re pretty much now classic/retro and just soooo Metal.

It’s not about the bike, lol...

I love reading this sort of thoughtful reply between you and Jason here : )

I’ll post my reply to the above comment, Mr. My 2 Cent...but yes, totally agree with your concept here. There are likely still some gross polluter, but I’m thinking more industrial factories-type and ships idling off shore. Hell, I don’t know, but am reading your houghts closely. Here’s the cut and paste from above:

This won’t get out of the grays, but I totally concur. Moved to San Bernardino in ‘90, live in Redlands and work out of Lytle Creek and semi-professionally pay attention to the weather...when I first got here you really couldn’t do your own observable weather during the hot season...visibility was so often a quarter

Pulled over on HWY 138 at Mormon Rocks (just off the 15 in the Cajon Pass where a month ago we had all those cars get burned and no one ((!!!)) get hurt) because I saw this guy taking a picture of his holy shit brand goddamned new Rocket III and he’s in this just terrible broke-dick Shark 3/4 helmet that looks

In transit now to the Gasquet Complex (fire) with Walker’s Team 1 on the Sierra National Forest as a Division Group Supervisor...there are lots of folks like me that base our daily safety considerations on the well informed descriptions of NOAA and the NWS meteorologists and IMETs. Meteorologists have your back

First time in a couple years (except for a week stint in VietFFNGnam ; ) I rode yesterday without gloves. It was delightful in 100° and 85Rh and instructive: I was really just too aware of an unprotective bit of skin. I was thinking “How do I best bail/fall now?!” and wow...THIS IS REEEELY NICE. Anyway, back to ATGATT

So...not sure if I should be posting here, but I’m a Forest Service captain (BDF E31) and this occured in our engine’s initial attack response area. I would be happy to answer any questions as long as they cogent and drama-free. Also, I am in the grays.

In the instructor’s defense, and who is known to me from grad school, absolutely he maintained a literary cognizance in his attempt to show his student an entry point that would help them continue to enter what is still obviously so elusive for this student. The instructor had such strong influences from the really

Very interesting point. Most of the serious motorcyclists i know have also eluded the oft-metioned devastating street crash. I do hear, anecdotally, of low speed laydowns as a first crash scenario. That’s almost universal...and perhaps instructive as a lesson in riding with “brain attached to throttle”. It would make

Rippetoe, yes! We incorporated the concepts in Starting Strength on our hotshot and engine crews...folks were resistant at first because everyone was a cardio fanatic and "muscle doesn't go up hills". We all changed our thinking and 20-30% stronger across the crews and still good hikers : )
