That's kind of the point. Not only is he smart, but he's not apologizing for it. He's not some friendly, awkward nerd. He's smart, he's the hero and he's probably leaving with your girlfriend.

It is interesting that there is such a high proportion of UK actors in US movies—not just men, but women too. I admit that I associate good quality acting with UK actors. Even the lamest brain-dead action movie can be made watchable when the acting is good. We do "gritty" (Sopranos, The Wire, etc) well, but…
