Clean off the rust ? Good luck with that. Rust was a standard equipment on that era of Mazda. Our 2003 protege started rusting 6 month after we bought it new. It was so bad that Mazda repainted both side a year afterward.

Well I changed my comment at the last minute. I was talking about the new JL initially. Although that would work for an old TJ/LJ too except for the V6 part.
