Exactly my thought. A poor casting will look exactly like that. I used to be a machinist and casting often had those kind of cavities. The edge of them look to sharp to be wear-related. I wouldn’t worry to much about it. It probably came like that out of the box. It isn’t ideal but it’s fine I think.

Sure it isn’t fast by any means, but the 4G69 is a nice little motor. It sounds great and it is pretty torquey. Plus with the MIVEC it is a little more rev happy than the 4G64 I used to have.

I bought a Base 2014 Elantra GT in 2015 for less than an Accent. Dealer wanted it out. I got the big engine, the manual transmission and not much else for that price. I liked the Mazda 3 better but that was several grand cheaper and the Hyundai dealer is miles better.
