Thank god I'm not just being uncomprehendingly racist, the important Chinese dignitary is the same guy who played the important Chinese dignitary in Arrival. Talk about two sides of the same coin.
I have a friend who's been an extra on the show a couple times - most recently as one of the team at Uber in the premiere, who Ben's uncomprehendingly racist to - and he reliably informs me only about 20% of the filmed insults make it into the final cut.
Chodes, plural, for Rhodes - I like how well-researched all the snark is on the show. Everything from "This is what the Arab Spring was about" to the terrible, terrible justifications for circumcision.
It was a fascinating balancing act in the early seasons of the show, how everyone shit on Catherine, but Sarah Sutherland made her so dumpy you couldn't empathize with her.
Tim is such a wonderful dude, like so many actors who play completely loathsome people. I love how authentic Jonah sounds when complaining about annoyances he had as a kid.
It was all setup to that perfect, understated "Something amazing happened to me, too!" Between Richard, Jonah, and the delightful Brian Doyle-Murray as Uncle George, this was a real episode for sex revelations.
True story: My cousin (age 9 at the time) insisted we watch TRAINSPOTTING at a family gathering, because she recognized multiple actors from the show on the DVD box.
"Howard Doyle, of Doyle Oil."
He'll still never top the microwave noodle monologue in my book - that's the kind of legendary STEMlordery I can't ignore.
Unlike Dennis, Dan expressly doesn't want to be "a golden god"…
And Gary has a heart attack in the background.
Staying on the phone for god-knows-how-long, and singing along with the hold music…
I love how Catherine is starting to show hints of her mother's…fearless amorality, let's call it. That laugh was a big moment for her.
And then Jonah steals the line in a way that makes it about a third as clever, but still funny in context because of that. What virtuoso comedy writing.
Highlight for me: Marjorie and Catherine going straight to Dan, knowing he'd be willing, and it goes even better than they had hoped. Perfect inversion of standard sitcom procedure.
STEPHEN FRY IS ON VEEP AND ALL MY COMEDY WALLS ARE CRUMBLING
I can watch every single Black Mirror, almost literally any time I want.
It's pronounced "LEE-junn", guys.
Beth has mentioned her mother too many times for there not to be anyone at all. Rick even mentions regretting how he fell in love.
