I was TOTALLY nervous. TOTALLY. For all those reasons. I started on a treadmill at the gym doing a quarter mile running at about 12:00/mi pace and then walking a quarter to a half a mile and just built up from there. I now coach beginning runners (I coach a lot of runners but the beginners are always my

So, because your roommate is unable to lose weight (although you never said she wanted to) and I am that makes me a "scrawny ass" who your roommate could "run into the ground?" Why all the hate? You're doing exactly what the article does - accusing people who are able to lose weight of being imbalanced... or, in

I want to be your friend. :)

YES!!! Awesome!

On the contrary - I don't hate fat people. I was one for nearly 30 years. I know precisely how difficult it is to lose weight and that it's not a priority in everyone's life. Nor should it have to be. All I'm saying is that making it OK to be fat shouldn't mean that we demean people who want to be skinny or claim

Yah! Accept the best version of yourself you can find. If that means having a "doughy middle", well that's just fine. If it means being 100 pounds overweight, then I'm OK with that too! You are beautiful and amazing!

You miss my point. Running an 8 minute mile was clearly too much for your body. It was telling you something. You ignored it. I advocate running at whatever pace is comfortable for one's body, not taxing it to the point of injury. Encouraging people to reach their potential isn't ignorant or able-ism.

Being technologically inept, I posted this as a reply to my own post. I meant it as a specific reply to someone who asked how I lost weight. Running is how I did it and I truly believe that anyone who wants to run can do it. But you are so right... it's not a good fit for everyone. I think it's really important to

excellent point!!

YOU. ARE. AWESOME!!!!

I posted something to you that I accidentally posted as a reply to myself. I run! I hope you find something that works for you. It's a struggle, but never give up. You're in control of your own life. Go live it the way you want!

You're amazing!!!! 129 pounds??? Such an inspiration! Congrats!

You are awesome. Admitting those things when you see them is SOOOO HARD. Seriously. When I went to Weight Watchers I was running 25-35 miles a week and GAINING weight! You know how many calories you have to eat a day to counteract that many miles??? I needed help and one of the things I needed big help with was

you are awesome!!!

RUN. I never lost an ounce until I resolved to become a runner. Running won't do it all for you - I lost my first 50 or so just by running but then plateaued something awful after that because I never changed my eating habits. If you don't want to change your eating, you can still lose weight if you just get out

This article really irritates me. Like a lot of Jezebel articles, it INSISTS that health is possible at every weight (get real - it just isn't) and IMPLIES that anyone who seeks out a lower weight is just kidding themselves that they can do it, are reprehensibly vain, or of some lesser echelon of intelligence because

Can we all PUHLEEEEEZ stop talking about vile Chris Brown? He's absolutely THE most boring pop culture figure around these days. Every time a respectable person (or blog) posts something about him I just want to jump off a building since it's THESE POSTS that keep this amazing tool "famous." Ignore bad behavior,

Here here. IL attorney here and 56-hour sexual assault crisis certified counselor of TEN YEARS. Never once asked for mental health history, fully licensed to practice. Yay!! No, not for the passing out on the train... for the "be yourself" part. So sorry for all of your health issues but it sounds like you are on the right track.

So there is a LOT of judging going on here.. in this article, in the comments, in the way people treat their own bodies (700 calories a day is STARVATION, not a diet) and just a general sense that everybody is real pissed off about..... well, their own insecurities. Look, fat, skinny, short, tall, beautiful, ugly,
