I understand this sentiment but considering the number of liberals who (correctly) lost their careers in the wake of MeToo, I don’t think we have a real problem with eating our own dog food.

Eh. There are lots of film directors.

I think no two cases are the same and you can always find some reason or nuance to justify firing someone you don’t like and not fire someone you do like.

Bad precedent for whom? How does it jeopardize future projects?

An apology is directed at the people that were hurt by your actions. Gunn’s admission that he has grown as a person since he made those edgy jokes is great, and worthwhile, but it’s neither interchangeable with an apology nor “better” than one. His statement focused on his own growth and how it’s affected his own life,

Yes, of course there’s a difference.  And that difference is exactly why he’s been fired from one (admittedly cushy/high-profile) gig, but still has his career mostly intact, unlike, say, Roseanne Barr, who won’t be working outside of Pure Flix productions for at least a year or two, until the public goldfish memory

What would I rather have, lose the battle or the war.

I think what Zod might be getting at is that the cynicism comes from the idea that the support here might ultimately come from a place of selfishness (i.e. “I want to watch more Guardians movies directed by James Gunn”), rather than from a place of principle (i.e. “it’s important to me that nobody in this situation,

This is an explanation for his behavior on Twitter, but it’s not an apology.

The line is drawn wherever Disney wants to draw it — provided they don’t break any laws. It’s their studio and their money. They can hire (or choose not to hire) whomever they want to direct their films.

All that matters is the question, “Is Gunn a financial liability for the company if he continues to work for Disney?”

What we have isn’t a society where “people get fired for tasteless jokes,” we have a society where people sometimes get fired for tasteless jokes if those jokes threaten to provide mild embarrasment to a giant conglomerate, but otherwise, those giant conglomerates don’t seem to care.

The thing is, Gunn being fired from GotG is a slap on the wrist.  He did something stupid a long time ago, and he’s being punished proportionally. I’m a huge fan of his work, and an even bigger fan of his political stance, but I think that failing to fire him would be a huge mistake, not just for Disney as a

didn’t he apologize for his horrible jokes early on?

I am old person who was raised “Christian.” The vast majority of persons I’ve known all my life were “Christians.” I would say that 99.99% of these people are like Pratt: quick to lecture others on how to be a good person, slow to look at themselves. It gets old. Ya know?

It never sits well with me when someone accused of harassment complains about  how “just anybody” can file a police report with no proof. Because the only other way to do it pretty horrific.

What she is more likely to learn is that eight hours of strenuous exercise a day, with few, short breaks for energy drinks and candy that is labeled “Nutrition Bar” is likely to cause a substantial weight loss that will be greeted by lots of affirmation, attention and validation from the general public.

He’s Eminem, without the talent or street cred.

It’s good that they’ve stopped the construction to excavate the area. I have to wonder if there are more cemeteries nearby. Most likely, unfortunately.
