If it were up to me I’d start the origin the second he lands in Krypton and spend those 20 min building up WHY he wants to put on the costume and be a hero instead of laying low. Birthright nailed this with its first two chapters and I wish someone smart enough in Hollywood took inspiration from that. (It also led to

I agree, though I thought the idea floating around for Kill Bill 3 starring Zendaya as Vernita Green’s daughter looking for revenge on Maya Hawke would have been cool.

But he never really saw the world he lost either? He left when he was an infant and had no agency in the decision, and doesn’t really seem to know what happened to it until he starts doing the Superboy stuff in high school(I have not read the comics in decades so this may have changed significantly).

Some stories about Superman are interesting because they deal with the immigrant experience in the USA.

The problem is that we’ve already had that origin story in live action and around 3-4 times in animation over the last 20 years. Everyone already knows the story so it really isn’t necessary to go over it again.

Conan always brings out the best in Harrison Ford, it's wonderful

MacLeod seems to keep falling back on totalizing ideologies. The True Knowledge in his Fall Revolution is an example, and something like that motivated the protagonists in the Corporation Wars books. I wish he’d stick with pragmatic progressivism - he obviously has thought a lot about left-wing politics, and when he

Heck, even Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Gizmodo Bot loves Star Wars!

That’s what I heard too.

A convo with you last year had me re listen to Veedon. I liked it but didnt love it. I think the things you like about it are actually why it doesnt work for me, and vice versa. Same with exile (I have given it MANY chances. Give me any Velvets album any day of the week.).

Thanks for the link! Two hours well-spent watching her analysis just now

Maybe we will luck out and they will just shorten it to “Rom”!

Did not know that about the Royal Scam art.

I suspect it won’t be a “adaptation” and more like an “inspired by” situation.. Where they will pretty much strip it down to its “bones” and then build on top of it what WILL work for a film. Which is going to piss off the “purists” and religious fundamentalist because it won’t be what they are expecting..

In short,

HA!   No really, all you are doing at this point is programming my afternoons music at work because I realize how long its been since I listened to those albums!

I thought you were a Veedon Fleece guy.

Don’t forget 17 rapid POV cuts on a mundane event like a door closing or putting a pot back in the cabinet.

This reminds me of Playwright Eugene O’Neill who also took a meaningful approach to stage directions. He left very little to chance and required things such as the titles of books on bookshelves on the stage that the audience would never see but added to the overall experience for the actors. That was his approach at

I’m talking more about set dressing. Like what kind of chair is the character sitting in? What tchotchkes are on the bookshelves or the desk? What kind of pen are they taking notes with? What lamps are on the end tables? What curtains are on the windows? Or are they blinds? Or pull shades? Are the windows divided

When a director is good, everything in every scene is there for a reason.  You may not even know it consciously, but it affects the overall experience.
