That Sci-Fi channel Dune never gets mentioned in these arguments makes me sad. It was so clearly an attempt to make an anti-Lynch version.

I liked Dune. All of ‘em. Even Sci-Fi channel Dune.

Well by the end of book 1, all you know is he has to choose between dying himself/letting his family die or causing Jihad to spread across the universe killing billions. After wrestling with that, fighting against it, he gives up on saving billions and chooses to live.

It’s not just a graphics upgrade though. Lynch changed large parts of the story, sometimes for technical reasons (they couldnt figure out how to film the weirding way, so made the weirding modules into weapons, which is NOTHING like the book), and sometimes because he is a really weird guy and likes Thufir to milk a

Is that her at 1:31?

The weird thing about the 1984 version is that it lost the point of the story entirely. Instead of being about how the prophecy is false as designed to use religion to motivate people, the prophecy is real.

Arguably, the one he picked was less bad than the one Leto picks later. But I don’t think anybody really knows for sure, including Paul, Leto, Ghanima, Alia, and Jessica. I guess you could also say that Paul’s choices ensure that Leto will be forced onto The Golden Path, But that’s the problem with destiny, isn’t it?

A better question is have you actually read the novel Dune? You know - the story both movies were adapting and therefore will necessitate some of the same story beats and plot points?

I’m just here for the continuing arguments between the “Lynch Dune is a visionary work of art that can never be approached camp and the “Lynch Dune is a crime against humanity” camp.

Yeah its interesting that this “solution” moves who controls TCM to another team, but that team has no control over the TCM budget!

It’s time for Paul Atreides to fulfill his destiny.

Hey did you see this yet?

I guess Campbell quietly disappearing from pop culture was a reflection of his ideas being seen as antiquated, but I never thought I’d see him being compared to a wingnut like Petersen. What a drag! It’s always upsetting to see people whom you used to admire show their true selves in a way that makes you a little ill.

Frankly it depends on who you talk to. All things come in cycles and we’ve been here before when the people at the World Science Fiction Convention split between those who only wanted to continue to focus sci-fi literature and others that wanted a convention more open to other media and cosplay.

Okay, hear me out....

Yeah Hoechlin, I was skeptical of (not deeply so but a bit) initially and he’s absolutely ace as both Clark and Supes, even if the suit looks a tiny bit Arrested Development at times, I can live with it for such a strong performance.

Yeah, canonically Lois is always a couple years older than Clark.  It’s part of why she doesn’t take him seriously.

Amy Adams is like a full 10 years older than Cavill.

He’s 3" taller than Cavill, but go off.
