From what I understand the “everything is canon” thing is bogus and there is a fairly rigid hierarchy regarding the canonicity at Lucasfilm. Live action movies and Disney+ shows are absolutely canon (because they have the largest audience), animated shows and games are slightly below that (generally canon but leaving

I kinda feel like Wilder is the center of gravity holding the madness together. “Cuz let’s face it, the kid who plays Charlie is not super-charismatic. He works better as a kind of cipher through which we bear witness to the insanity going on in that place.

I bet Dahl hated that. He was not fond of the movie.

I didn’t say Martin did it first, just that he was the first author to become a mega-bestseller from writing gritty secondary world fantasy. Prior to that the popular fantasy writers were guys like Brooks, Eddings, and Jordan, who were clearly writing for an adolescent (or even pre-teen) audience. There were plenty of

Yeah, but it’s Time Cocaine.

I hope there’s a musical number.

Just imagine trying to explain Deadpool 3 to a movie exec in 1993 with those images as visual aids. It would probably destroy them.

“We can save Hooch, Turner, but only if you’re willing to become him.”

Postwar Germany was a bleak and depressing place haunted by history, gotcha.

It’s also got some really dark, cynical, anticapitalist satire about the lengths to which people try to get the golden tickets. Which is really amusing when you realize the movie was financed in part by Quaker Oats, who were trying to use the movie to promote their new candy division.

The exteriors were shot in early 1970s Frankfurt and it almost feels like the setting for a John LeCarre/Len Deighton-type spy thriller about an Eastern German

At this point Star Wars is basically treating the old EU canon the way the MCU treats the Marvel comics, they’re mixing and matching stuff that works for them.

I’m guessing it’s Starkiller Base.

Point taken, but I’ve gotten to where I just don’t get any enjoyment out of reading thousand-page fantasy novels that are themselves just installments in longer series. I might read the last ASoIaF novels if and when GRRM publishes them. But I associate the first three books with a period of my life that’s long past —

I rewatched the Wilder movie a couple of years back for the first time in decades and I was like, oh yeah, he totally bodied those kids. Same as how Hitchcock would always come out at the end of his show and tell you that the police had rapidly apprehended the perpetrators. Yep.

Dude, it looks like they fed a bunch of prompts into Midjourney.

Eh, I think it’s probably going to be more of an adaptation of the old Zahn books but with the Filoni characters.
