Not sure what’s so hard about these features with a manual. My 2018 Mazda 3 Grand Touring hatch has a 6spd and pretty much all of this options and for the most part they work great.

I agree, my first thought was that the whining noise before it engages reverse is the driver forcing through the reverse lock-out, followed by him revving and dumping the clutch.
