Why?
Why?
For some reason I was reading this as “Unruly Passengers Keep AirDropping Nukes” and was getting a completely different vibe at first.
The movies didn’t include the Scouring of the Shire because that would’ve added another hour to Return of the King’s running time. Also it would’ve been tremendously anticlimactic. There are things that work at the end of a very long novel that don’t work in a three-hour-plus movie.
At least the new DiscoBros cabal understands to keep investing in their big brand names, even if it’s in the animation department.
I also forgot how, like, not great a writer Tolkien was. Why on god’s earth does he choose the simile of a train (which don’t exist in Middle Earth) as a comparison for Gandalf’s fireworks? Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy.
The internal logic of the Lord of the Rings is that it’s a modernised and transliterated version of the ‘Red Book of Westmarch’ which in the internal text of Lord of the Rings is the legends of middle Earth begun by Bilbo Baggins and Frodo. In the meta narrative it’s like Beowulf or Gilgamesh from the perspective of…
No. I mean the literal stated conceit is that Tolkien did not write the story but was instead translating it and localizing it from the original text and language it was written in.

11 minutes from posting and I’m surprised to be the first. I have a wait and see attitude for this series. Not totally cynical, not totally sold.
Love and Thunder also did better than Ragnarok, after weeks of the haters whining that it would never happen.
I assure you, people are quite happy to talk shit about the terrible Wheel of Time show, the issues having nothing to do with the ethnicity of the cast.
there are certain themes that run through all of Tolkien’s writings, whether in the full narratives of his completed novels, or in the various fragments of stories and historical outlines published in separate works. These include the interactions of history and culture on language and vice versa, the corrupting…
I enjoyed the guy through a few reviews. Then I realized he REALLY has some axes to grind. She-Hulk is really stuck in his craw right now.
“Amazon is evil, so racists are okay to hate a show because black people are in it?”
The fuck are you talking about?
Galadriel is canonically a warrior and rebel leader in the Silmarillion. Anyone claiming that this depiction is a massive departure is only pretending to know the canon.
Why are you assuming that Amazon isn’t going to touch on the super obvious, unavoidable themes of this world? The trailer alone shows pretty much every thing you mentioned.
Racism and misogyny aside (not that we should ignore them - I just mean aside from the obvious idiocy of that brand of toxicity) the more general gatekeeping of content by fandoms is so utterly stupid. If you don’t like the show because it altered the source material to a point you’re not okay with it, I feel your…
So “the portrayal of the elven Lady Galadriel as a warrior in some sort of suit of tits-out armor”?
It’s funny how “fandoms” always devolve into racist, sexist bullshit, despite apparently being a wholesome outlet for innocent, passionate fans of the IP.
This isn’t even out yet. I suspect there are many reasons why it might fail as a show (none to do with the demographics of the cast) but I’m willing to be…
