I just don’t want to be one of those fans that’s all “This is the best game and every single person is going to love it!” No, it’s a great game for many people but there are some design choices that aren’t universally loved.

I just got all the Steam achievements for Elden Ring last night, which I don’t think I’ve ever done with a game this close to release. So obviously I had a fun time playing this. Imo the open world was very well done, and all of the legacy dungeons lived up to previous Dark Souls games and then some. I particularly

Doesn’t look low budget at all? And the effects fit that Scott Pilgrim aesthetic.

Definitely an unexpected crossover for The Witcher  but I’m into it!

Agreed. Torrent is the best video game horse. I can pick up stuff while mounted (fuck you Red Dead Redemption 2), I don’t get dismounted if I get hit in combat (fuck you Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Valhalla), he’s fast (unlimited sprint outside of combat), agile (can turn on a dime), double-jumps in a very satisfying

As soon as I got it, I was instantly using it most of the time. Combat is often better/safer on it. You can platform more easily. You can blaze past enemies to explore safely. It’s just god mode.

Best in-game horse, hands down.

I get that it’s based on a real-life dude’s memoir, but do we need yet another story set in the East with a western white protagonist?  Especially one played by Ansel Friggin’ Elgort.

yeah but we dont talk about that episode.

I’ve been trying to figure out for days what the extra-wide skull was (Species 8472??) and you’re telling me that it’s something they made up on the spot??

Not quite at the same time.

Fortunately, Aggy didn’t give a crap.

It’s a special military operation...

Arguably the wettest Batman movie ever.

Try the Harley Quinn cartoon on HBO Max. They really, really don’t take Batman seriously. (Especially his “relationship” to bats)

Not just the scenes. The Matrix actually did reuse several props and sets from Dark City, as they were owned by Warner Bros. They were both filmed in Australia about a year apart.

Interesting that it sounds like Villeneuve & Co. are stopping at Dune Messiah. But that book always felt like the “real” ending to Dune instead of the relatively happy resolution in the first novel. Children is more of a transitional book in terms of tone and themes. I could see someone else adapting it, along with

I would comment on this but I still have 2 pending comments on other articles. One from this past week and one from several weeks ago.
If someone could get this all straight so I could be part of the discussion in real time I’d be very happy.
P.S. And all the AVClub Kinja comment help links are dead.
P.P.S. I just

And my favorite, Inspector Bumstead in Dark City, initially trying to catch Rufus Seward’s character (whom he thinks is a murderer) but who eventually comes to realize that something is very odd and wrong about the city he lives in.

You forgot Duke Leto Atreides in the sci-fi version of Dune.

that Jedi Hunter narration about how Jedi inevitably give themselves away with a trail of compassionate deeds.
