Agreed. I have gone off-registry for lots of wedding gifts, but still always pick something small off the registry to go with it (those hand towels, beer steins, or useful little kitchen tools.) This way even if my "fun" gift is off the mark they still get something they can use.

I am convinced that this obsession with NYC, and specifically Manhattan, is actually a form of Stockholm Syndrome, at least for us normals.
