I cracked up at "Steve" too. Although I'd probably go with something like "Percival."

Jessica Lange is AMAZING. The reason I think she is an incredible actress is, she just throws herself wholeheartedly into whatever she's doing. Once she has learned her lines and rehearsed her role, she throws all logic out the window and just inhabits that person and their life as hard as she can. If the writing is…
Oh my god, yes. I don't know what I will want for myself when I'm elderly, but at 93 my grandma is pretty clearly miserable and sick of her life. She used to be very physically active, very sociable, and LOVED to cook. After years of walking four miles every day, now she can't do much besides sit in her recliner all…
Poor baby kitten! brb, need to go snuggle my cat something fierce.
Your cat is so beautiful! Torties for the win.
Unintentionally campy? Huh. I see the campiness as very deliberate and gleeful, and as a result it is totally working for me.
Agreed. When my mom had cancer (she's okay now) there were lots of people who did the "well if you need anything . . . " thing, but when she wasn't too embarrassed to ask, she was probably too tired and stressed to fully take stock of what she actually needed to make requests. My uncle, who just kept swinging by with…
Fair enough. My bff, who still lives there, has already complained of hipster takeover, but whenever I go home to visit I'm just kind of like ". . . ehh, you haven't seen Brooklyn."
Ethical Slut is actually from 1997. You might be thinking of Tristan Taormino's book Opening Up, which came out in 2008 and also talks about ethical nonmonogamy. (I'd also personally recommend it over Ethical Slut.)
Absolutely agreed. He went for her face and her hair. If that didn't have to do with how she makes a living I'd be amazed, especially since he also attempted to rape her. What he did to her is sick on so many levels.
Your wedding gift idea is lovely and I'm going to keep it in mind for the next crop of friends' weddings.
Good advice all around. It might also be smart, if buying clothes/books, to check out what IS on the registry and get a feel for the parent-to-be's wishes even if you are buying off-registry. Like, if all the clothes they've requested for their kid are in gender neutral colors, probably pass on the pink "Princess"…
Agreed. I have gone off-registry for lots of wedding gifts, but still always pick something small off the registry to go with it (those hand towels, beer steins, or useful little kitchen tools.) This way even if my "fun" gift is off the mark they still get something they can use.
Pooling with other friends to get one of the more expensive registry items is a great idea, thanks for posting that.
The baby showers have yet to start rolling around for my friend group, but I figure when they do registry is best — there will be a lot of practical stuff on the list they will likely be very grateful to not have to buy.
Most of my friends who are getting married, though, have already been living together for a while…
Agh, fuck that guy. There are lots of awesome state schools!
I am convinced that this obsession with NYC, and specifically Manhattan, is actually a form of Stockholm Syndrome, at least for us normals. If you're as wealthy as Taylor Swift, Manhattan probably really is one big playground. But I hear this sentiment even from people who are barely getting by! It's bizarre.
I have no idea. And the funny thing is, I live in DC now! You'd think at least the nation's capital might be considered a "real" city, but nope. He practically lost it when his wife suggested they move from Manhattan to Brooklyn or Queens, too, so not even all of NYC counted.
Oh my god, so very much this.
For serious. This all must be so painful and traumatic for her, but there she is, documenting what she's going through, making sure people understand that intimate partner violence is a real thing that happens to real people. Every photo she posts is a reminder of how brutal and scary things can get.
