Yes! I signed up to be a bone marrow donor about 7 years ago. It’s extremely easy, the whole kit is mailed to you, takes maybe five minutes to complete, and you just send it back. I haven’t gotten a call yet, but I would be thrilled if I could one day help someone.
South Korea, which I believe has also closed most foreign adoptions now. In this case it’s because the stigma against adoption in S. Korea has eased a lot, so now children are being placed with adoptive parents within the country.
Thank you for this. I cannot take antidepressants due to a medical condition, but I am so pleased that you found something that worked for you!
Ugh. About five years ago, my Scottish friend was spending a month in NYC, and I went to visit him. Got some pizza in the village, wandered through china-town, told him ‘hey, wall street is weird and empty at night, lets go walk down.’ Totally forgot what was on the way. Hit me like a thunderbolt.
Nope! But it is something of a comfort; if we are both so heavily scrutinizing ourselves, we probably wouldn’t notice someone else!
We’re assuming it’s suffering. But how do we know?
I continue to be amazed at how she resists the urge to just haul off and say “Are you fucking kidding me right now? Come on, dude.”
I was in DC on 9/11, and it wasn’t nearly as bad as it was for New Yorkers, by an order of magnitude.
Actually, it’s much more aggravating when anyone not in NYC, DC or Shanksville, or who suffered a personal loss on that day trying to take ownership of 9/11. Because they saw it on TV.
New Yorkers are generally “over” 9/11, as it were. They were basically over it in October, 2001. Yes, there is still a wound there,…
The delivery nurse asked if her mom wanted to name her Christina, but the mom said, “No, just Tina.”
My only respite is the knowledge that this kind of shit is unsustainable, and the firm belief that sometime in the future—hopefully sooner rather than later, but it’s probably still farther off than we’d like—we’ll look back at these as the dark times from which we emerged.
No WAY. I’d pick Bethenny over Luann every day of the week. How embarrassing to have to sort that shit out with Wilson after Luann hissed at you to tell the volleyball to call her Ms. DeLesseps.
I have 5 kids in private school. I’m a product of public schools myself, and never thought we would consider private. But while public schools are great for lots of kids, if you have a kid that has needs that are a little outside of the box, and you can afford to pay the tuition, there are some very legit reasons why…
It’s part of being a Good Catholic. Ignoring rules and casual blasphemy.
I got lucky with my neighbors, and I live in super-suburbia so I’d say you’ve got a better chance! The couple across the street still have much-younger kids, but they were delighted that a babysitting-age kid moved in so we’ve become buddies. They drastically overpay my daughter to babysit and I bring them beer on…
