There is video of the cat, who was named Tiger, riding on the tractor of his owner. Apparently, it was a cool cat.
Crombie was my first ‘celebrity’ crush as a little girl with the old Anne movies, and then when then made the (non-canon) First World War sequel I started crushing SO HARD on adult Crombie too.
Speaking as an insane cat lady - if this was just some yahoo redneck, I’d have rolled my eyes, had a rage-moment, and moved on with my life. But she is a VET. She is someone who has taken an oath to do no harm to animals!!!!! I’m trying really hard to contain myself and say she doesn’t deserve to have her entire life…
I can’t imagine anyone who loves their pets and wants kind compassionate care for them would ever feel comfortable taking them to this clinic. I don’t know what kind of oversight, boards, licensing and such exist in the veterinary world but I sincerely hope that some sort of investigation is done on this place.
Please, please tell me by the one stupid, heartless act, this woman’s very expensive education has just become worthless. Maybe there is an 18th Century village nearby looking for a rat-catcher. Given the sociopath she appears to be, the whole office she worked at really needs to be closely examined. I hope she lives…
Perhaps those fellow employees who favorably commented on that photo need to be relieved of their jobs as well. There are a lot of competent vets and vet techs out here who do not see the need to kill/torture animals. I hope this woman gets jail time (in Texas) for this, it IS animal cruelty...
If some asshole killed my cat with a bow and arrow I’d come after them with a fucking vengeance. I’m glad she lost her job. No one who enjoys killing animals for fun should be permitted to treat them.
Her mom took the picture and several people who supportively commented on the photo work (still) at the vet clinic. Something is seriously wrong at that clinic.
...with the addition that he was also always second to Anne, and never the primary thing of her life.
I absolutely agree, with the addition that he was also always second to Anne, and never the primary thing of her life. Like, even in the later books, when they are together, she is doing her own thing, and that’s the story, and he’s just in them. That is not a narrative we get a lot, which added some extra charm to…
I watched the VHS tapes until I wore them out. I bought another set, and I wore that one out as well. When I read the series, I saw his face as I imagined Gilbert. I played Ruby Gillis in a stage production when I was 15 years old. This will never be okay with me. I am sad and disappointed, but most of all, I am sorey.
I think what made the Gilbert character so unforgettable in the minds of many girls and boys is that he represented a very underrated image of masculinity. He was gentle, selfless, sincere, and devoted (much like Matthew Cuthbert). He wasn’t a bumbling oaf, a brawny hunk, a marginalized nerd, or an over-the-top…
My first thought was, ‘Now how am I going to marry him when I grow up?’
“Carrots”.
Did he dip your pigtails in the ink well?
Same. My husband and I met as teenagers, and I sometimes wonder if he was really that bad, or did I hate him just so we could be like Anne and Gilbert? Sigh. Those books (and the miniseries) were a HUGE part of my life. Book Gilbert and movie Gilbert were my first loves. I am in the depths of despair.
I loved him so much when I was 8, and I still do. :’( :’(
As a Canadian and a lifelong Anne fan, I am in deep mourning right now :-(
I am NEVER going to get over Crombie’s death, and my eternal love for Gilbert Blythe. I mean, frig, my wedding was loosely AoGG themed, because my husband and I started off just like Anne and Gilbert. We hated each other.
