It was a massive debate in my family when we had him — the fact that he wouldn't be circumcised. I had relatives whom I hadn't spoken to in YEARS contact me to tell me to do it. I had co-workers asking me about it. It is madness how important this kid's penis is to people. And, how important it was to them that he be…
We can sure as hell critique narratives that perpetuate people being viewed in a stereotypical, reductive, and yes, dehumanizing way, though.
I have been a Jezebel lurker for years (since the very beginning), and I have seen its decline. One thing that pisses me off is that no one writing for Jez EVER acknowledges when commenters are right. The whole Lena Dunham thing? We ALL thought that was fucking ridiculous. The rape photos incident? That was…
Cystic acne, like she has, is not due to wearing makeup. It's much deeper, not just a clogging of pores. That's why they can be large deep nodules that look like welts. But this perception is one reason having cystic acne can be so awful, people assume you've brought it on yourself.
Yeah, all that makeup she wears is probably why her severe acne began in the third grade when she didn't even wear makeup. Way to completely miss the point and make assumptions!
Your opinion is incorrect.
Yes, that must have been how she started getting acne in third grade. From wearing too much makeup. And undoubtedly, she's never seen a dermatologist so I'm sure she'll be grateful to you for this handy tip.
Well, your opinion doesn't always have any bearing on reality.
Not that cystic crap. It's NOT like regular acne. It comes on and hangs around no matter how careful you are with your cosmetics, and sometimes even the most meticulous skin regimen doesn't do any good. There's usually stuff going on with hormones, sebum production, cell turnover, etc. when it gets like that. Nothing…
I wasn't aware that you're her dermatologist. Cool.
Did you hear her say her acne started in third grade? Acne is largely a hormonal condition, which is why it is prevalent among teenagers. Others of us (me! yay!) have a lifelong struggle with the condition, no matter how much makeup we do or don't wear. Do you think Ms Bankson would have gotten to the point of…
If people serving food are so brilliant why aren't they splitting atoms or something?
It WAS a personal decision before she chose to share it on FOX News, Twitter, and now Bravo. Now you're taking a public stance. I love Andy but I am so disappointed in him on his response— how would he have handled it if a guest spread false information about how AIDS is spread, or discouraged the use of insulin?
This kind of crap makes me so angry.
My brother is adopted from South Korea. Before he came, he contracted Tuberculosis which developed into meningitis, causing cerebral palsy. We didn't find out the extent of his illness before he arrived in Canada.
My parents actually had people ask them "Why didn't you send him…
I feel sorry for her. When I hear people like this bashing on others I think how much self-loathing you must have for yourself that you're projecting on to other people. People like her make me think that internally she lives an angry miserable life
You know, this lady is most likely still bulimic but it's just taken on a new form. She no longer throws up to rid her self of food, but over exercises. Everything about her articles and views screams to me that she's not at all over her eating disorder - she's far too consumed with it all.
She's just the latest story that has helped me perfect my theory that Sacramento is the Florida of California.
Your comment seems quite light on substance, as well as misleading generalizations, as well. There has been a concerted attack on the organic food movement, but if one looks honestly at the huge body of scientific studies of pesticides (look up Gaucho - made by Bayer - for just one example), one will find serious…
Except where do the pesticides go afterward? Into the soil and water. Onto the skin of the farmer. Into the air. So even if I can wash every speck of that poison off the apple I buy, it goes somewhere and it can kill someone—maybe just pests, maybe birds who eat the bugs, maybe a person who gets cancer after one…
