I don’t see much of a difference between what she did and his years of publicly humiliating other artists, like he did with Beck. Swift was playing the same game he does. In this case I don’t see how her being white and him being black is a factor.

I don’t agree. Why is she being criticized for playing the same game that Kanye West does? He’s been the asshole many, many times for attention.

I agree with you. I can’t get on the hate-Taylor bandwagon. She happens to be an extremely talented artist and businesswoman. I love her music.

I don’t understand the point of this article. Is it just an analysis of what Swift is doing with her latest album, or is it to depict her as being problematic? She’s a smart business woman and she makes great music, whether it’s pop or country. I don’t know who she’s hurting by focusing on a particular genre at any…

I’m really confused by it too. The tape showed she told a half-truth, not that she lied. It certainly didn’t exonerate Kanye, and its mere existence coupled with his lyrics at least indicates to me that in addition to being a misogynist he’s incredibly manipulative.

I honestly don’t understand how this aspect of the whole thing has escaped, like, everyone. He DID NOT clear the lyrics he ended up using.

I feel like the actual terrible thing was the naked dolls in that Famous video. It’s so weird and violating. Yet rarely discussed.

This site and a section of the commentariat is VERY dedicated to hating certain people and blindly stanning others. It tends to come in cycles: they hold up certain celebrities on a pedestal, then tear them down as soon as someone reads the “your fave is problematic” Tumblr.

I have a problem with this analysis of her crimes. Kanye cleared half the lyrics.

Yeah, I think now that she had such a successful pop album with 1989, she’s probably less concerned about keeping the country vs. pop wall up. Plus, she won Song of the Year *this year* at the Country Music Association awards, for a song she wrote for someone else, so she knows she’s doing just fine there.
